Within the scope of Bergama-Soma-Akhisar Highway Project (KM: 0+000-10+490) Grading, Engineering Structures, and Superstructure Works under the responsibility of the 2nd Regional Directorate General of Highways, geosynthetic reinforced retaining walls with split face concrete masonry unit facing elements were constructed at Ihlamur Evleri Intersection (Km;52+543).
The construction of a total of 5,700 m2 geogrid reinforced walls with a maximum of height of 7 m was completed in 2 months, and the road was opened on the scheduled date.

Geosynthetic reinforced retaining walls are preferred because they are both aesthetic and economical without any maintenance cost. Additionally, geosynthetics ensure long term safety of such high structures.
The advantages of these systems compared to others are quick application, completion of the back fill in a controlled manner at the end of the construction, minimization of subsequent settlements, and the positive effect of dynamic loads on the wall.
